Where would I be??

You know, where would I be if I hadn't gotten some things from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog? Hmmm.. There are SO many fun things in there!!

This is a card that I made for a trade awhile back. I really like it. something I think that would be cute too is to just take the portion with the snowflake, circle, and tag and use that on presents at Christmas time. fun, fun!!

The main product used on this card was the Big Shot. There is actually no stamping on this card at all. I used the folder for the poinsettias and used dies for the circle, snowflake, and tag. I did take out my ink to rub across the tag using a sponge.

The Merry Tag is an embosslit. What does that mean? That means – put a piece of paper in the embosslit and it cuts the tag and embosses at the same time. An embosslit is like a sandwich and the paper goes in the sandwich and the through the Big Shot.

I also used the Snow Fall printed window sheets for fun. They had a background so easily! From the Big Catalog, I used the Snowflakes Set #2 for the snowflake. These little sizzlets are each 2 1/4" x 2 ½". You do not need anything extra with your Big Shot – just the things that come with it. The Circles #2 Original Die has a bunch of circles on it. I used the largest of the circles on this card.

Another card using Shimmer Paint

Did you come here to see a card? I can sweeten the deal with a potty training story. How would that be for you? Nah, I won't share the stories. They are funny, but just not appropriate – as I am sure you can all imagine. Funny thing is this is my 3^rd kid. So, I should have potty training all figured out, right? Well no, I suffer from dementia (early onset, just kidding!) and I can't remember potty training. Hmmm. I think daycare did it for me. Honestly! But, with Devon only going to daycare part-time I guess I have to get things initiated. I don't think it works to only be potty trained on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday? Yeah, not going to work!

Would you like to see another card done with the Frost White Shimmer Paint from the Holiday Mini Catalog from Stampin' Up!?

Isn't it crazy that depending on what cardstock you stamp it on, it looks different. For this one, I mixed a little of the paint with a little real red reinker and it turned out Rose Red.

A rare Saturday post…and a little story

First, the story. I was putting my labels on the back of some swaps (I am sending away about 80 cards and getting an assortment of them back). I said to my two year old, "you let mommy get this work done and then we will play. Do you (my son) have any work to do?". His reply, "Yes, clean my room." Yeah – ever see a two year old clean a room? Doesn't go so well J. It was funny nonetheless. Funny that his response was so appropriate.

I have a card to share with you. We made this at a Stamp a Stack last weekend. What is a stamp a stack? At a stamp a stack, everyone makes 16 cards. 4 different designs and each person makes 4 of each them. Tons of fun! Everyone has a GREAT time! If you would like to host an event like that, let me know. We'll get your date on the calendar.

For the bottom portion of the top note die image I used a piece of pattered paper. You aren't going to believe this – but I used an autumn paper for that. I purchased the Autumn Traditions paper pack. I love it. when I looked at the ruby red paper, I thought it would look great for a Christmas card. I designed the colors of the card around the colors that are in the pack of paper.

The colors in this pack of paper are Elegant Eggplant, Soft Suede, Ruby Red, More Mustard, and Always Artichoke

Project 2 from the Open House

All the guests that came (and the ones that could not, but did order) were able to make this little matchbox. It was great listening to the gals and their ideas of what else they could do with this die – most of them thought of other fun things to put inside and also other holidays they would like to use the matchbox for.

Isn't that just fun? Can't you think of a lot of people who would like to receive that? Stocking Stuffers? Gifts for coworkers. The list goes on and on.

Project #1 from the Open House

This is the first project that I am going to show you. Tomorrow there will be another one J. Make sure you come back!

What did the gals like about making this project? How easy it is to use the new Shimmer Paint from the Holiday Mini catalog.

I LOVE doing events such as an Open House for my customers. I do feel bad that my long distance customers cannot participate. So, a couple of workaround I have for that are this. First, I record a video of what went on. That way, you too can learn about the products just as if you were here. Just shoot me an e-mail if you have questions on any of the things that are presented. Second, for all my long distance customers placing orders that coincide with the event, I send them the finished projects. In this case, I will be sending the card above and the project that I present tomorrow. So, it is a win win for everyone!

Is today a new beginning?

How many of you feel that way? If you have the same schools schedule as I do, I am sure you can relate. Summer is officially over the day after Labor Day. Kids have been back in school a couple of weeks. There are no vacation days from school in the near future. We can get in a routine and stay that way for quite some time. And, before we know it, the school year will be gone. Yikes!

Well, you came here for a project, and here it is J.

This is a card made using some great products from the new mini catalog -- the stamp set, the embossed flowers, and the color of the ornament.

Let me give you some details on the ornament. In the mini catalog is a product called Shimmer Paint. It comes in three varieties and they are ach $5.95. The bottles are not very big, but you hardly go through any when using it.

You notice that my ornament is a Rose Red color? How did I do that? I purchased the Frost White Shimmer color. Then, I added some Ink Color Refill. Believe it or not, I used Real Red. I added a couple of drops to a 1" puddle of the shimmer white paint. I liked the color I got and it was really close to Rose Red. If I would have continued to add more Re-Inker, than I would have gotten a "redder" color.

Something else new in the mini catalog is a punch that works with this stamp set.

You will notice the small piece of Chocolate Chip Cardstock behind the ornament. I used the Stampin' Up! Movers & Shapers Curly Label item for the Big Shot with the Stampin' Up! Holiday Windows for the Big Shot (from the Holiday Mini). You can see more about the Movers and Shaper on this post from a couple of days back.

What happened here?

I had a bunch of cards to make – a swap. You all know what that is? I send scads of cards (72 of them – 12 of 6 different designs) to a gal. She sorts , rearranges, and sorts again. and, I hopefully will get 72 DIFFERENT cards back. Isn't that cool????

Well, I usually have a horrible time coming up with the six different designs. I don't like to copy – not so fair to everyone that is in the swap. Plus, it is hard to give credit to the original person. Once the swaps are out of my hands, I don't know where they will go J.

But, I got all of my swaps finished (thanks MOM!!) and they went in the mail. Then, I am looking through a tub of stuff. Low and behold, I had actually made 7 different designs!! Here is #7. Not a reject, just unfound J.

I like the look of the card. One thing I like about it is it is a layout that could be used for a lot of different sentiments. The paper (I'll talk more about that later) is patterned paper. Switch that out, the ribbon, the color, and a different stamp set, and you would be WAY on your way to a different card.

Let me talk about the patterned paper. I started with a sheet from Specialty Designer Series Paper (see more on this in yesterday's post) from the Holiday Mini Catalog.

I have used this paper out of the pack:

Step 1

I cut it to be 4 x 5 ¼. I then used my Movers and Shapers Die along with the new Stampin' Up! Magnetic Movers & Shapers Holiday Windows from the Mini catalog (these need to be used in the Big Shot machine). That is what cut the hole that you can see the old olive cardstock from behind.

Step 2

Take that piece of patterned paper and run it through the Big Shot using the Stampin' Up! Textured Impressions Folder Petals-a-Plenty (also from the Holiday Mini Catalog). This is what puts the "raised" poinsettias on the patterned paper.

Step 3

Our patterned paper has a white core. What does that mean? When it is ripped or sanded, you will see white through. So, I sanded over top of the raised poinsettias. That is why you see a bit of white on some and not as much on others. I used the sanding blocks that are in our catalog.

There you have it. J. Really, it does not take very long. Get your Big Shot out and you are about finishedJ.

I took the weekend off from blogging. I didn't take the weekend off from stamping. I actually did quite a bit and you will see that in some posts coming up.

Saturday I had a stamp a stack at Lynda's house. What a GREAT person. She has been talking up Stampin' Up! and introduced some gals to stamping awhile back. So, they all had a great time! She found a great spot in her bathroom for one of our décor elements – the long stemmed one from the front of the brochure. How cool is that!

Here are the cards we made at the stamp a stack. We made 4 of each design. When I do a stamp a stack, I have a few more word stamps along for the gals to choose from. So, the cards you make are cards that you need. You will make 4 of each card. You will end up with a total of 16 cards when you are finished. How fun is that!!

Lynda picked the themes, so that is how I came up with the cards.
